Mirboo North Secondary College is in the South Gippsland Shire and is a rural college with a friendly atmosphere and has served the community for over 50 years. There is a close working relationship with Mirboo North Primary School and we share the administration building, gym and library. We have an excellent relationship with neighbouring primary schools and secondary schools within South Gippsland.
At Mirboo North Secondary College:
Students are interested and curious about their world. They have responsible input into the type of learning they do and understand the purpose of the task. The material is challenging, students are eager to extend their understanding and knowledge; they question their learning and know when they achieve success. The school provides a respectful, caring, dynamic and global learning environment that engages students in their personal learning goals. Students develop a desire to learn in a tolerant and accepting community where lifelong friendships are attainable. Students are provided with opportunities to develop vocational, academic and life skills.
The school has an excellent reputation for high academic achievements in VCE subjects and provides quality learning opportunities for all students in the school. The school focuses on improving teaching and learning to enable students to develop skills and talents which assist them living in the 21st century. The school curriculum program is tailored to meet the changing needs of students as they progress through school. Skills to support good learning habits and community awareness are built into existing programs. This is evident in the year 9 Community Breakout Program as well as the learning focus in years 7 & 8. The school is continuing to develop the key capacities for 21st Century learning:
• Critical thinking
A student centred approach to learning is being developed and many students and teachers are involved in a range of projects:
Adobe Youth Voices, Digital Learning Team, On-line Science forums, Music program, Murray Goulburn Business Education partnership, Global learning projects with China and Germany, Positive behaviours initiative and the implementation of Mind matters throughout the school.
Students with special needs have individually tailored programs to suit their learning needs and currently there are students from years 7 – 12 being catered for in this way.
